Used games bought from Facebook cost heavily, but ended well
A Nintendo Switch 2 user was shocked when his new console was banned without any warning. According to Reddit user dmanthey, he bought four old Switch 1 games from Facebook Marketplace and installed them on his Switch 2. But the very next day, he received a message that his console was banned from Nintendo’s online services.
Nintendo stated the reason: Use of “Pirated Games”
When he contacted Nintendo’s official support website, he was told that his console was banned because the system identified these games as pirated copies.
However, dmanthey immediately sent photos and order details of the purchases made on Facebook to prove that he had purchased these games legitimately. The result? Nintendo lifted his ban without delay.
Support system praised, said to be better than Microsoft and Sony
In the Reddit post, the user also said that Nintendo’s customer support process was fast, simple and human. He described Nintendo support as much better than Microsoft and Sony.
“The process was so easy that it was hard to believe… I sent proofs and my console was back on in no time.” – dmanthey
But not everyone gets such a solution
While dmanthey’s experience was positive, other users warned on Reddit that not every case has such a resolution. Nintendo is generally very strict about its policies, especially when it comes to IP protection and piracy.
What does the Switch 2 ban mean?
The Switch 2 being banned does not mean that your device has become completely useless. But:
- You can’t use Nintendo’s online features
- You can’t download games from the eShop
- Online Multiplayer and Cloud services are also not accessible
This means that to a large extent, your console is very limited compared to other users.
What are the lessons?
There are some important lessons to learn from this incident:
🛑 1. Always buy games from a trusted source
Be cautious while buying games from Facebook Marketplace, OLX or local sellers.
🧾 2. Keep receipts and photos of all purchases
Whenever you buy a second-hand game, save its photos and details so that you can use it as proof later.
🤝 3. Contact support immediately if you get a wrong ban
The Nintendo support team can help you — provided you have authentic proof.
Conclusion
Nintendo takes strict measures to keep its platform safe and fair, but if you are a loyal customer and have proof of the legitimacy of your game, you can protect your rights.
This incident teaches us that trust is as important as vigilance in the digital world.
If you buy second-hand games, keep these things in mind:
- Buy from a trusted seller
- Keep photos and receipts of purchases
- Scan any new game before installing it on the console
- Avoid games from unknown sources
- Contact support immediately if you notice suspicious activity
